Best heater for a forty gallon reef

I’ve gone through two heaters in half a year... that’s stupid. What are some good, decent priced heaters for a forty gallon reef?

I'm big fan of cobalt for smaller tanks. Less likely to break down or crack, you do pay a premium for them though.

I use Eheim heaters in all my tanks and haven’t had 1 issue with them at all. Only downfall to them is they do run a little longer than most heaters.

The best heater I have used is an 'aquael' heater it is solid state can be hit with a hammer and survive in perfect shape. I bought one and I have one and keep an analog and digital thermometers which I cross check. It stays within 0.1 degree Celius. I think the US version may be called "cobolt" brand

Solid state fails on, so use an inkbird or cheaper above these for safety.
Ehiem isnot electronic, but a bi metal switch. !ess likely to fail, but wider temp swings since it is full on or full off. Some of the electronics can send out say 50% of the voltage to better maintain a stable temp.
I use 2 x 150 watt eheims controlled by apex. The eheims are set to 80, in case the apex fails. The apex temps for the 2heaters are staggered, so only 1 is switching to slow the temp swings.
I think about using a more temp stable cobalt for the controlling, higher element , but am concerned about the frequent power cycling of the electronics.

In my 40br I use a 100watt Jagar and a 150watt Jagar as the backup, both controlled by my Apex. Been doing good for about 2 1/2 years now.

I've had a Cobalt in my 46 gallon for 3 years now without a problem

I use two 100w Aqueon Pro's. One for backup. Never any swing in temp. Also have a 40 gallon tank.

They are all junk lol. I have buckets of failed heaters from the most expensive to the cheap ones. Just pick up a controller and throw any disposable heater on there that you can get your hands on. For what its worth, I have had the best luck with the Aqueon Pros also.
