Best place to buy new fish?

If your LFS is 'a bit pricey' but the quality is up to your expectations, I'd always go with the LFS! You can see the fish first, and you support a local business- one you might need when the sh#t hits the fan..

I only buy my fish from one specific shop; I know their way and I know how the fish are handled.

I want to support my LFS if there price was half decent or better selection. Most have the same fish over and over again. If any good fish pops up, its sold or on hold. Asked to order fish and they said ok. Never heard back. It seems they aren't very motivated themselves. Its actually sad that a guy who sells out of his house has 30x a better selection than my almost all my LFS

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say NOBODY offers customer service like I do.....it's my passion and do it for the love of it, so helping hobbyists is very enjoyable.....I pride myself on customer service and do my best to answer all text messages and emails right away. Who else posts their cell phone number on public forums? 818 269-8903. Just hit me up. Tankstop.com

I will attest that @Eric Cohen provides great communication and seems like a bonafide reef community member. Not fish-related, but currently helping me with a Flux Rx treatment of Valonia that has been working really well--I can finally look at my tank without saying "I really need to get to that [bubble algae]". I'd give them a look at fish. They seem to have a big selection.

Thanks! I really hope your tank is cleared up!

It’s taken me a while to find a reliable LFS in S. Florida. Aquatic Jewels in Hollywood gets my vote. Great quality and very competitive pricing. They also run 10,15,20% off sales every holiday. The 4th was 20% off and i got a 7 inch male personifier for $500! Been in copper for about 1 month also however not therapeutic level. Nonetheless they are my go to locally now. NYaquatic online has gotten much better lately. Would stay away from Laquaria as their pricing is crazy and their quality very inconsistent. Just my 2 cents……Reefpro also very hit or miss and communications lacking….

I’ve had the best luck with bluezoo aquatics. Fish always arrive healthy ready to eat. I recently ordered a bicolor angel, naso tang and a yellow coris wrasse from reefs4less and I’m not impressed. The tang is very thin and the wrasse died 5 hours after arrival. The bicolor angel is doing great. Of course I didn’t pay extra for the 5 day guarantee. I won’t use reefs4less again.

I should have also added that although only dealt with Eric Cohen once or twice in last years, he was straight shooter and fish were high quality. A bit pricier but I suppose you get what you pay for. Thx Eric!

Thanks a bunch. This new website I’m working now is a lot of fun and I get to play with the fish which has always been my passion. Tankstop.com now has a huge specials page with hundreds of items on special each week. We just added that last week. And yes, I’m here to help everyone with each purchase. Reef On!!!

Eric- Please PM me on Black tang. Thx

I highly recommend Eric Cohen at Tankstop. I decided to do my first online fish order on Wednesday. I’ve bought many corals online but never a fish. I ordered a Klein’s Butterfly to help with aiptasia and received him this morning. He is so fat and healthy, I was pleasantly surprised. A beautiful fish!

I will not hesitate to order from Eric in the future.

NY Aquatics, ABSOLUTELY the worst experience I have had with a vendor in my 20yrs of reefing. PERIOD.
I wonder what happened…..I started selling retail about a year ago after seeing and hearing bad things about the mainstream supply chain. I handle all the orders myself and wonder what happened to you that I can learn from. I put customer service at the top of my priority list and always wanting to hear what upsets customers most. Other than dead fish of course:)

Where to start. I'll give a quick bullet point of the deficiencies/lack of communication I experienced with NY Aquatics.
1. Did not have fish I ordered and paid for. (Do to losing them)
2. Did not ship on agreed upon date.
3. Did not communicate that he did not have the fish I ordered. Nor did he communicate to me that the fish would not ship, which cost me a days pay as I had taken the day off to receive shipment. And he called my loss of pay an "inconvenience.
He did try to make things right but that didn't go well either.
After a few emails where he said all the right things I decided to give them a second chance, as I was guaranteed I wouldn't be disappointed. Added another fish to what was to be replaced. My mistake.
4. Sends video of fish eating. Fish look great. Wrasse has no blemishes, angel looks great. Fish arrive to me are not the ones in the video. Wrasse has huge wound on his back. Angel has half rotted off pectoral fin, and what I fear is uronema.
5. Absolutely no follow up from NY Aquatics. One would think with all the issues we had and my giving them a second chance he would follow up on his promise not to "disappoint. "
I am nothing but disappointed.

I have a “low stock” alert on my website and if the fish isn’t there or healthy when we go to ship, I usually ask if you want a refund or if you’re cool to wait for the next shipment. I prefer to refund and not keep track.

Oops! Just a mistake or any specific reason?

I totally get that. Frustrating for sure!

Why was that a mistake?

Oh that’s bad. The bait n switch never works!

I’d also highly recommend Eric Cohen with Tankstop. Communication has been great with the couple of orders I’ve placed. He responds promptly to messages through R2R, texts, and calls including over the weekends. He’s even taken pictures or video when requested. Packaging has been great too and fish have been healthy.

Eric Cohen, to answer some of your questions/comments:
Not a mistake, he knew he wasn't going to ship. Never bothered to tell me until the day fish were to arrive, despite my multiple emails asking about shipment. Excuses followed.
The mistake was mine forgiving him a second chance and giving him more of my money.

I checked your site out Eric Cohen. You don't have much of what I'm looking for at this time.
