I have both scarlet/red leg (dwarf kind) and blue leg hermits in my tank. I had a stage of green hair algae a while back where it was covering most of my sand and half my rockscape in my 24g tank. My LFS suggested red legs would help, so I decided to add 5-10 small ones. I must say that from my personal experience, the red leg hermits mowed though the hair algae like tractors clearing a field lol. Both types worked for me and don't seem to bother any of my corals.
