Hopefully, I will receive my two MP40WES units today for my 90G. I was planning on placing one in basically the middle (slightly higher than halfway down) on the free end of the tank. The other end, however, has about 1/3 of the pane taken up with the side of the overflow chamber. Is it better to place the pump on that end in the middle of the portion of the glass that is available, or as close to the overflow wall as I can while still allowing free flow on that side?

Hoping to add a MP10 in a few months which will go on the back wall. Do I have the right idea here overall? Any other or better suggestions?

Thanks!

The absolute BEST placement for your new MP40 would be in MY tank...but....

I think you will read in the manual to start with your master on the free side as you said; start with ~8" down from the water surface, and start with your first slave pump on the back wall. When you get your MP10, I might find it best on the back, and your slave MP40 near your overflow as you state in your post. Do not have both MP40s pointing directly at each other.

I would place them as close to in-line as possible. The proximity to the overflow shouldn't make too much of a difference.
