Keep consistent correct parameters. Ensure light is optimal. Feed as usual. Do water changes consistently to replenish trace elements.

Well for general purposes then my answer would be proper par levels and flow and adequate nutrients.

leta just say for discussion sake the chemistry is stable (alk, Ca and Mg all within desired range and stable) and nutrients (nitrate and phoshate) present but not trending up. water changes are consistent with a quality salt. however it's a mixed reef tank and it is suspected that the light intensity is lower than it should be and should be increased to fix the browning...

Yes. Lighting is one of the most critical parts. (I did forget to mention flow, but that’s because it’s a given for me).
Low lighting = increased zooxanthellae in coral to increase photosynthesis capacity which leads to browning out.
