I have a 14" branching Duncan I want to ship. What would be the safest way but still cost-effective way to ship such a piece?

I would do a large styrofoam inside a cardboard(like when you get fish shipped)with plenty of water, and a cardboard box.

Get it large enough to fit, but not so large it has room to jostle around.

Unfortunately, it won't be cheap to ship.

Maybe you can find some spray foam insulation that is not toxic and use it to surround the base giving it stability and then box it. I think a key to shipping it without any breaks is to keep it from moving around. Good luck, beautiful piece.

Ziploc bags filled with water to act as underwater bubble wrap?

That's going to take a lot of water/weight.

This might just be one of those pieces where the most cost effective, yet safe method is a road trip, a cooler, and a battery powered pond pump.

The piece isn't one of those "oh, I found the same thing locally for cheaper" things. Maybe there's some people on the route that could use some things transported.
