Tried hand-feeding mysis...pain in the ***.

Tried turkey-basting mysis & brine...wayyy too much waste.

What's the best/easiest method? What's the best food?

I've heard of the Fauna Marin stuff...how big are those pellets?

Any anecdotes or helpful hints would be appreciated. Thanks!

Peace,

Chip

I feed mine brine with an eye dropper with all the pumps turned off. It works pretty well you just have to get your hands wet, which I enjoy. lol

I can't find a dropper/pipette with a mouth wide enough for easy feeding. That's also been a pain. :)

I use the fauna Marin lps pellets. They really like them. I feed them every other day or so. I have about 12 frags. I use a small squirt bottle. Put a bunch of pellets and fill with water. Just drop a few in each head. Got some really good growth.

The only eyedroppers I've been able to find are glass...tried filing down the tip and it just shattered. Blah.

How big are the pellets? Do you have to hydrate them before feeding?

They aren't they aren't that big and don't need to be soaked. I noticed if I left them in the bottle for a while the water will cloud up a little but they will hold shape. This is next to a grain of white rice.

Those pellets look small. Do they sink? I'm just curious about the ease of use. Maybe I should go back to Piscene Energetics Mysis...those were huge and easier to handle.

I just turn off the water flow and suck up bits of mysis on a turkey baster and gently feed them when I feed my fish. It's not that bad. I use the Fauna Marine pellets when I'm lazy or I just see them puffy begging for food.

Here's Cherry Corals feeding one of their acans with Fauna pellets

Thanks for the video. It looks like those might work in the eyedroppers that I have. I know the price is steep, but it'd be worth taking a flier on.

I appreciate the info.

They do sink, which is good. I turn off my return pump and put my mp10's In feed mode. They will sink and stay in the Acans mouth to give it time to eat. I don't broadcast feed these. Too expensive. I place a few in each mouth depending on the size of the head.

I use tweezers & feed mine PE brand mysis soaked in liquid vitamins, IME it's the easiest & best way to feed LPS.

I fed with tweezers today and it wasn't as bad. I've gotta get either those pellets for the eyedropper or bigger food for the tweezers.

I use a 16"L piece of 1/2" tubing, thaw frozen in a small plastic dosing cup, then pour into tubing and hold over my LPS.
By putting my thumb over the top of the tubing it stops the foods decent til I get to the next one :)

I've only been into these reef tanks for about 4 months since I started my 24gal.
For the acans I've been using mysis with an eye dropper. I take a measuring cup from a Red Sea chemical bottle and fill it halfway with tank water. I put the frozen mysis in and it thaws right out. Makes it super easy to maximize the amt of food being sucked into the dropper. Shut the pump off n ur ready to rock n roll.
