Why do you like rhowaphos over GFO?As already said you need to use a reactor with the GFO between the sponges for best results and set it so that the GFO gently moves around like simmering water.
As a general guide you want to maintain phosphate very low so around 0.03ppm and I would say run it 24/7 and that will keep your phosphate in check provided your feeding fish and they will of course release nutrients back into the water.
If you currently have a high phosphate reading, and you also have corals, I would use smaller amounts of GFO to start with and reduce the phosphate slowly so you don’t affect the corals health.
Just remember when you start using it, you may have to change the GFO on a regular basis as it will become spent quickly as it absorbs the phosphate from the system. As it does the time between changes will lengthen
I personally use rhowaphos in a reactor 24/7
