I set up a bio media reactor about 2 months ago for my 120 gallon tank. The tank is about 18 months old. I ran the reactor and skimmer 24/7. I have not seen any results with my high nitrates. Did I strip the bacteria off by doing this? Do i need to take the bio pellets out and re seed them. I have about 2 cups of pellets in the reactor.

The protein skimmer won’t remove nitrate from the water, only the waste before it turns into nitrates which will of course help

You could also try re seeding the reactor to see if that helps to get nitrate reduction going
