Figured it was time to start the build thread, so here we go! I have had saltwater FOWLR tanks on and off for the past 15 years (always wanted coral was just to scared to pull the trigger). I started the Biocube about 7 years ago because my son wanted a fish tank, figured the wife couldn't say no to her baby haha! Santa brought him a fully stocked Biocube complete with live rock, sand, banded shrimp, chocolate chip starfish, urchin, clownfish and 2 blue damsels (oddly I can't find any pictures of it :( ). It was running smooth for about 2 years and then we decided to move to Florida and enjoy some sunshine! I sold off the fish and thought I would just move the Starfish, urchin and shrimp. They did not enjoy the move and ended up passing on shortly after. So I let the tank sit in the dark with very few water changes or other maintence, reason for that is that my daughter was born. So the tank sat for 5 years give or take a couple of months. My wife got tired of seeing this dark box sitting in the corner of the living room and gave me the green light to start the reboot.

It was supposed to be a FOWLR tank but after stopping at an awesome LFS @TopShelfAquatics I got on their live sale and ended up pulling the trigger on a coral (it was all downhill from there as my better half keeps reminding me)!

I got rid of the metal halide that came with the tank and purchased the 30W Hipargero LED off Amazon, also I was told that the tank needed color right away so I got an artificial rock structure with coral and a silicon anemone. The clowns love it and its way easier to care for!

So here is the first coral I bought on from the live sale

It was a $5 mystery frag (also won a gift card, beginners luck). So that was the first coral I bought but not the first I got. While waiting to go pick this beauty up I found a tank for sale on facebook, it was a little 10 gallon with fish and coral. It was cheap I had to get it!

I'd love that hql.
I still have it boxed up in the closet. I have been going back and forth about what to do with it. I'd like to get into SPS and figured that would be a great light for them but I don't think I'm ready for that just yet if ever! If I decide to get rid of it I'll give you first dibs!

Ok so here is the 10 gallon that I bought off facebook:

There was a lot of aiptasia and algae in the tank, but there seemed to be some life in the corals. I found out the hard way that Neon Dotty backs are aggressive toward everything, I had put some of my CUC (3 hermits, and 3 snails) in to start the clean up. The dotty back killed all of them in about 3 hours! So off to LFS to rehome the dotty. I picked up new cleaning crew to replenish what I took out of the bio cube plus what was needed for the little one. Also picked up a larger diamond gobie since everyone liked the first little guy. Moved the little gobie to the 10 gallon and gave the big gobie the big tank.

A little closer look at the coral (prior to me moving them into the bio cube, which will be my main DT)

still can not figure out if that is a Haddon carpet or a Florida Ricordea up against the glass

About 2 months ago I moved everything into the Bio cube except for the frogspawn as the clown decided it wanted to host in it after the dotty left

FTS when I moved the rest over:

Blasto opening nicely:

After about 3 weeks of leaving the frogspawn in the 10 gallon I had to pull it out the color was fading and it looked like the polyps were getting ready to bailout! So I bought a second silicon anemone for the clown and decided to pull all the live rock bleach it and start over!

Tanks as of today, sorry some of the coral are retracted I feed them early in the morning. Tomorrow I will be doing water changes, maintenance and the rock will come out of the bleach to start drying. They look good and cant wait to start cycling them to add back in.
