So I just got my brand spanking new Biocube 29 and it is my first tank. My question is about the lighting. There are 2 strips of white fluorescent lights, 2 strips of blue fluorescent lights, and 3 blue LEDs. Should all of the 3 types of lights be on at the same time? I have a book about aquariums but it only talks about different types of lights and not really how they are used. I wanted to put them on timers. How long should each type be on per day? should on the blue lights be no at night and the white ones during the day? please help!

I run my Acitinic lights from 2pm to 12am. My Daylights are on from 4pm to 10pm and the rest of the time is the blue LED moonlights. Not sure if that is the best schedule but it works for me so I can enjoy my tank with daylights on when I get home from work at 5pm....

The bulbs in the hood are compact florescents. Its actually only 2 bulbs, though it looks like 4. I like to have the actinic (blue) come on first and go off last. Sort of like dusk and dawn. I would leave the white one on at least 6-8 hours.

If you ever get fedup with the CF bulbs, its really simple to retrofit some LEDs in that hood. I did it on mine and absolutely love it!!

Anything wrong with have the LEDs on at the same time as the others?

I dont think there should be anything wrong with it... The LEDs shouldnt add heat and dont use too much power, so I dont see why not...
