So I have a question for you all, could a tank be successful with just lighting, wavemakers, a heater, and live rock, or should you use more equipment?

I'd imagine it would be possible but you would probably end up doing bigger water changes than the fresh water world does

Protein skimmer in my opinion is a must have. Some people will say you can get away without. But you will be doing water changes more often to keep the phosphates, nitrites, and nitrates down
