Birdsnest

Just got my first few corals, Duncan, blasto, and a birdsnest, will the birdsnest do ok mounted on a vertical surface?

Yea , looks good. As long as it gets good flow.

It’ll give it a pretty cool shape to the colony IMO. I like to mount acros like that too.

i believe the flow is good, getting good movement of the polyps.

More of an equipment and water quality junkie than a naming corals guy but...I thought true birds nests had thin branches.

Here is one of mine.

Almost all of the Pocilloporidae family are called birdsnest corals. Yours being Seriatopora is the more commonly called birdsnest. But still is used to describe both pocilopora and stylophora.
Edit luckily in this case they all have practically the same care requirements :). Not always true for other things in this hobby that share common names.

So it would seem i have several types of "birds nest"

Those are pocillopora, they look similar but different genus than birdsnest (seriatopora). The op is a guttatus birds nest. They have thicker branches than hystrix which is what yours is, but still in the seriatopora genus, not pocillopora.
