You can, the sand granules have iron in them making some of them magnetic just be careful with your magnetic scrapers and stuff... I experienced slightly more algae growth from it but nothing that couldn’t be controlled with proper nutrient control... I ended up not liking the color myself so I switched from it but it’s nice and looks great in my buddys nano tank lol

My seahorse had black/white while my piranha tank was all black (yes, I know not reef) .....looks good in the right tank. No negative side effects.
