Black Sponge

It’s been a long time but I thought I remembered something about black sponge being bad. Any experience with it?

I’ve had one on the base of my frogspawn for about two years and it hasn’t grown over any of the living tissue. However it has grown quite fast and large, it is now branching long arms and looks awesome. I’m glad I didn’t remove it.

I’ve had a few and they’ve never caused me any issues. Only concern is when they start growing over coral

I have some and it's just a nuisance. I reached in to remove it and the back of my hand felt as if I got into a wrestling match with a Bristle Worm.

I dipped my Coral in Peroxide/ tank water and killed it off.

@jh2pizza , I thought you couldn't dip Zoas in peroxide? Am I mistaken in this thought?

Never had any issues with Zoas. I use 50/50 3% Peroxide for no more than 3 minutes.

They are a very quick and aggressive grower. Keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't get out of control.

Do you think, there's a chance the sponge can jump to another live rock even if they aren't touching?
