Green gig is looking really healthy! Good score on that one!
I’m not sure on the gigs not being able to live in the same tanks. Ali at amazing aquariums in Orange CA has had two for years without issue in the same tank. I’ve had two for quite some time without issue as well and I know John (Gig’em?) has multiple I believe in the same tank.
Would be interesting to know if that does cause issues though.
I'm not saying that they're not able to live in the same tank. It just takes some careful observation and maneuvering to get the right combination that works.
I have yet to see the gigs at Amazing Aquariums, but it's definitely on my list of things to do while I'm in SoCal. There is a pair of the CA Academy of Sciences that has been thriving for years and they're right next to each other (they're also in a 200,000+ gallon tank, and if they didn't like being next to each other I'd think one would relocate, especially in a tank that size).
In terms of my personal experience, I have a green and purple in one tank, and a blue, green, and tan in another. All seem to be doing fine. This was after trial and error moving gigs from tank to tank seeing how they interacted with one another.
For example, the blue and purple could not live in the same tank. Once separated, the purple gig started to thrive and is now the dominant gig compared to the green one. They touch one another and are both fine, but the green one is smaller than the purple.
In my other tank, the blue one is clearly the dominant gig because it's a lot larger than the tan and green one. I'm considering moving the green from the tan and blue because it's not thriviing (tentacles aren't nearly as long or flowing as my other green gig) and seeing how it does in its own tank. I suspect it's look a lot like my other green gig.
John mentioned to me that he didn't notice any dominance, but did mention that he lost one (or more, I forget) due to shading. I think he still has three in the same tank. Thoughts,
@gig 'em?
