I have a male blue jaw trigger and am considering adding a female to make a pair. Problem is he has been in the tank for a while by him self now. Would adding a female be ok still or not advised?

Not advised unless she's much smaller and you change the rock around.

Make sure that where you get a female it's a true female and not a young male. They look similar and may nor be showing the blue throat. Fin tips have to be red or brown then it's a female
