Blue leg hermit and cirth snails

I have blue hermits and added about 20 cirth snails. I've noticed that I have a lot of empty snail shells now. Are blue hermits known for killing them or could something else be making them die.

i cant say if they are known for it or not. But i can tell you i added a bunch with some little mexican turbo snails and it was a massacre. I have one zebra hermit and it went postal taking out most with in hours. he now is sporting a nice new house lol

Same. Don't know if its their norm, but my blue leg hermits are always happy to upgrade their shell. They leave my Astraeas alone for now, they're still smaller. But they pick on the little night time snails that come out every night

blue hermits will not only eat your snails, but they will eat other hermit crabs. but on the other hand, they sure do keep algae down.

If it was them, they didn't do it for the shells because they were way smaller than the hermits.
I do have a very large turbo snail too.

I lost all my Cerith Snails within the first year of getting them. I too had a Blue Leg Hermit. Whether he was the culprit or not I never noticed. I just know that those particular snails never lasted long in my tank.

imo, hermits are opportunistic feeders. they will eat snails, each other, and sometimes algae... i went hermit free in my 75g

I bought the 55g cuc from reefcleaners for my 75g about 4 months ago. Just three days ago I discovered a blue legged hermit in a cerith shell. I look at my tank constantly and have never seen this guy until now. And now I see him all the time. Idk where he came from but he's been doing some work on some hair algae I have.

I'm going crabless in my 125 because Ive been having problems with my hermits eating snails in my biocube. Lots of locals here won't put crabs in their display
