Can a reef tank do will with only blue light!!!!!

good question. I know blue leds are strong enough to grow on their own so im sure it could...im curious to see what others say. tagging along.

Cause the water with that depth in the natutre will be a filter in each depth and blue one of the colers pass threw,i think!

I've seen it done for well over a year and the corals looked healthy and colorful

Yes but I have seen my fish having a hard time finding the food except my deep water wrasse.

I'd be curious if it can be done on an SPS tank! Would you get good colors and growth?

Yes it can be done with great success. Jason Fox lights at least one of his displays (possibily others?) with 4 blue T5s and 2 blue reefbrites. Obviously his corals do quite well with this.

i believe that the answer is yes only if you use T5 as a light source. It looks blue but have much wider light spectrum than LED does.

I run my display reef solely on T5 - ATI Blue plus 6 bulbs total. When I first started this system I had 5 blue plus and one aquablue special but wanted to see if ATIs blue plus could really handle the job solo. After 6 months I see no negative result in a tank that contains finger leathers, various low end to high zoas/palys, multiple euphyllia colonies, and some entry level Birdnest SPS ( ponape and screaming green).

I agree that T5s and power compacts could run a reef system solely on 460nm-420nm spectrum as they contain the other parts of the spectrum just in a less visible form to our eyes.

Yes i believe it can be done! Have run my tank for 3 months now on Actinic T5's and my corals are doing great! Under water the blue spectrum is a much stronger wavelength, but that being said, color wise im not too happy... I am adding a Kessil A360w today for the UV spectrum which i heard is the most important overlooked benefit of LED lighting and benefit to coral growth.

I run my tank with royal blue, blue, violet, and true violet leds and my zoas seem to love it. They never close.
