Any advice on a blue ribbon eel? I’ve had him almost a week and a half and he was doing really well but all the sudden today seems really off. He’s breathing faster and has stopped eating? Any advice tank parameters are perfect

PH 8.1
Alk10
Calcium 450
Mag 1400
Nitrate 5
Phos 0.04
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Salinity 1.026

150 gallon tank

They don't need to eat everyday, and what have you been feeding, and how much?

Can you post a picture or a video of the eel, (in daylight) that show gill motion
He’s been eating frozen shrimp dipped in garlic. One small shrimp each day until last night and today he didn’t eat either

It’s hard to get a clear video where I zoom in he likes to stay at his pipe toward the back.

I don't see anything wrong, but it does look a bit labored with breathing. I can see a lot of flow, but is the water surface allowing for good oxygen exchange? Do the other fishes look like they have elevated breathing?

Feeding once a week is sufficient and mainly . . . How are you testing the water?
Often nitrates affect these eel and I question if false readings/ accuracy
As water seems a little milky, what is age of the tank?
How is tank being filtered?

Add an air stone to tank, at least for now

I use all Hanna checkers for the parameters. As for filtration I’ve got an auto roller uv light chemi pure purigen and then I have a hob skimmer. Tanks about a year and I’d did a water change with coral snow the night before the video.

Was this happening before coral snow was used?
Is the auto roller mat getting soiled?
Other reason for heavy breathing is increase in tank temp, respiratory infection, feeding shelled foods such as krill and stress from other tank mates

Got it. It may be the coral snow then I didn’t it would bother him but I can do a quick water change and see if that helps thanks for the help!
