What's with all the blue squammys lately? We went from never seen to being able to find them from most good vendors.

The one's on the market right now are farmed, and I have been told from a very reliable source that it will be a few years before we see more.

Well now I need to get one. I was waiting for the price to go down because we got a ton all at once.

I have heard something similar to this as well. If you like the blue squamosa clams, now is the time to pick one up before they are all gone.

I must say I look forward to mine growing up to a 20" blue stunner...

I've heard that they are painted blue with crayons and water colors. Most will turn purple within the first year.

I've personally seen 3 different grades of blue squammies. The more readily available one is the blue dotted one. They actually look like the lesser grade Crocea or Maxima's to me. Then the rarer ones I've seen recently for sale look like the old school wavy blue patterned. Then I've seen ones with the mixture of the two. I'd still love to get my hand on the old school looking ones...well worth the money IMO.

Sure they were actually squammy's? I know one of the people that helped make atleast some of the recent squammys available and pretty sure no one would be sellin them for $125.... unless they like losin money LOL

My lfs had one that he was going to sell me for $125. It was a true blue squamosa and it was about 3/4-1" I also saw a pyramid snail so I passed.

I don't believe these have been graded based on spots and wavy lines. I have been keeping clams for over 20yrs and I have never seen a solid blue squamosa in this time. Squamosa's typically have large spots/dots and wavy lines, yes - but to see them with very fine spotting that looks solid and uniform is something I haven't ever seen - especially all blue.

Whatever your preference is regarding these, they are all very nice clams.

I got a few myself from the last shipment and was told we won't see more till next year some time. They are sweet clams though for sure!
