Blue Tang - Tail Rot?

I wanted to introduce 3 tangs at the same time, small sized Naso Tang, Desjardini Sailfin Tang and Blue Tang and somehow I took a risk and I selected a Blue Tang with split tail among 2 alternatives from local fish stores since this Blue Tang had better color and shape except its tail.

Do you think it is tail rot or result of a previous fight from other tangs? The condition and shape of tail makes me suspicious about tail rot. Lastly, is there someone who had Blue Tang with similar condition and its tail fully healed?

This is evidence of biting/tail nipping and clowns are my suspect who often portrait this behavior. One way to determine this is to set your cell phone on video mode for about 40 mins and drop a little food and walk away - YOU MUST walk away as they know youre there. Often the aggressor is a bully at feeding time.

I dont think its rot. Give it a week and see how it does, have meds on hand if you need to pull it.

Sharply angled cuts in the fins are rips from some mechanical damage. Fin rot, which is just a bacterial infection following some injury, will be less angled, with smoothly eroding edges. Those edges will often be white or reddish in coloration....I don't see that here.

I do need to point out that adding three non-quarantined tangs increases the chances of seeing ich our flukes crop up, and the chance of that is even higher if they came from different stores.

Yes… Things have changed a lot in Turkey since 2005 in terms of economy. I cannot find fish/coral/invertebrates from reef keepers anymore, there are no forums and listings left. Only 10-15 saltwater stores are left in Turkey. These 3 fish were in those stores since 1 month and I did not want to buy fish fresh new import that will arrive in 1-1.5 months, another gamble that I took.

Naso was very healthy but super stressed during acclimation. Sailfin was the calmest one. Blue Tang was also super stressed during acclimation.

I suspect that Sailfin developed ich;

I just wanted to post an update;

Sailfin Tang got fine afer 1 day but Blue Tang had 2 white spots when Sailfin got fine. After 2-3 days Blue Tang got also fine but Naso had 2 white spots this time. After 2 days have passed again, Naso also got fine. They are all healthy now.

I will post a message if tail of Blue Tang will be fine in future
