BMF’s 120g Comet Reef

Awesome! Great job on the stand! I was in a similar situation with always having small tanks, but now I aim for more water volume it really helps with stability and takes a weight of my shoulders
Thanks!

Small tanks can certainly be fun, but they’ve definitely got their limitations. I am happy to expand. 😄

Well, nutrients weren’t as detectable as I thought. According to the Salifert tests, NO3 is decent, maybe 15-20ppm, but the phosphate is just about zeroed. Gonna try raising that some with pellet food and a bit of Brightwell Neo-Phos.

Been dosing Neo-Phos daily and monitoring phosphate levels, still quite low. The Dino does seem to be slowing down, which is hopeful.

I thought adding another fish might help raise nutrients as well, and I found a very nice little Carpenter’s flasher wrasse at an LFS near me. I had a livestock card with them, so the fish cost me about $25 out the door. I’ll take it! He’s hard to get pictures of though. Very fast moving. He’s already cruising the tank and chowing down on Reef Frenzy though. 😄

I think the dinos are improving. Seems to be very little on the rocks, and the sand bed is looking better as well. I’ve continued dosing PO4, and then I also starting dosing Microbacter SpongeExcel a few days ago as well, trying to cause a diatom bloom.

I’ve never basted or scrubbed the black plastic overflow, and it was covered in slime. Now though, the slime looks like it is decaying and receding in patches without manual removal.

I’ll hold the course for another few weeks, see how it looks. I’m still not planning on adding corals for a while. I have a weeklong vacation coming up, but will have a daily housesitter. Hopefully things don’t go awry while I’m away.
