Agree with @JoJosReef this is a type of Eunice worm. With all the rock that passes through our hands, it is a rarity. We found one similar in size when moving warehouses, it was in a sandy cryptic location living in an area where debris collected. Being unique to see, J delivered it to FWC biologists. Creepy looking for sure!

The eunice worm (bobbit worm) i had in my 13.5g tank that i smashed the rock it was inside to get it out about 1.5 years ago

dang! I ordered TBS and it came with Gorilla crabs. Nightmare to remove them 3 in total.

I’m well over 25 gorillas, I am aware of 4-5 more in their hiding spots. I got two more this weekend so far. I’ve also pulled out 2 stone crabs, I have a 3rd to go. I know where he is, I will just have to destroy a rock scape to get him. I’m very close to trying to rescue as many inverts as a I can over a month and then doing a series of interceptor treatments to eradicate but, that will be a last ditch effort. There will be a tremendous amount of collateral damage if I use that sized sledge hammer.

From what I've found out so far alot of the fear is unfounded and probably more all too common media fueled paranoia. There are several types and some seem to be detritvores not predators. I have one in my tank and have not had anything come up missing yet in almost 8 months. They're creepy looking and I think that is most of the hype. Plus being in the same family as the predatory Bobbit worm. I still plan on removing it but for now I'm just monitoring it to see if it does become a issue.

I thoughg so aswell, ive had 2 different kinds of eunice worms in my 13.5g 2 of the one i showed pic of and 1 that was light brownish, i saw a hermit crab walk over one of the entrances to the worm and the worm grabbed the hermit shell very aggressively and i was like HUUUUH?

This is a Bobbit. A couple of weeks ago my GF spotted it when we were looking through the aquarium at night. I didn’t wanna believe it and thought it was just a bristle. After seeing it a few more times it was confirmed after seeing a few posts on here.

I was ready to break my tank down and get him out. Thankfully I spotted him last night and this am making small piles of sand in the sandbed. I always thought it was a pistol shrimp making the mounds in the sand cause we constantly hear the clicking and popping. Low and behold he popped his head out ! I tried to grab em with some tongs and it was a no go.

I was able to move some rocks to the side, lifted the biggest heaviest rock off the bottom that he was in.

Almost to the top, and he popped out swimming in the water. AHHHHHHHH I was screaming like a girl the whole time!

Was able to grab him with a strainer and toss him in a bucket. He’s OUT! Hopefully that was the only one.

The only rock I put in was from TBS. I knew I could get pests and hitchhikers but wanted the biological. Well that’s what comes along with it. Be careful out there.

That is one massive bobbit worm!

I added a couple hundred pounds of wet gulf rock to my system.

Ugh crabs and worms from gulf live rock. Never used to see those things with the rock from South Pacific, at least what I bought anyways. Lets not let this discourage others from buying gulf rock, it does bring in lots of beneficial critters. Cleaning the rock is part of the journey. I’d use it without hesitation.
