Bowed top on DIY stand

My suggestion, and it sucks because you'll have to refinish, is to sand down the high spot. Or can you actually see the crown in the board from the edge of it?

with that bow he would be sanding right through the birch finish which wouldn't be a big deal as long as the tank covered it. I wouldn't recommend using foam board myself

For future reference there are times when glue shouldn't be used and wood should be allowed to move.

In your case they would have been more than sufficient to keep the top in place. You also could have gotten away with just using the top piece and not laminating it to a lower piece. With proper cross braces a 3/4" piece of ply is more than enough to support that weight.

You're on the right track with the sanding IMO. Most advise against using the rigid foam under tanks.

There is a foam you can put under a tank but I wouldn't recommend using Styrofoam.

I don't know if you said whether your tank is rimmed or rimless, but you don't want to use foam directly underneath a rimmed tank.

Hi. It's rimmed but the foam wouldn't be directly under the tank. It would be tank, solid core door, foam, tank stand.

Thanks for the help and the ccompliment. I started a build thread but updating it always gets pushed out till tonight or tomorrow and before I know it, it's next week.

Looks good!! Instead of adding the foam and door you could add another piece of ply on top and shim between the existing top and plywood. Then run some trim around the base of the tank to hide the ply/shims.

That makes the most sense, keep sanding until you get sick of sanding then add the ply probably could use 1/2 or less depending on size of the gap
