What they claim with Chemi pure is pretty amazing but I was curious what everyone else thinks. How does it work, if it does? they claim:

- removes all bad things
- keeps ph constant and stable
- makes all inhabitants thrive

Etcetera etcetera

I wonder why isn't everyone using it?

Ravenous Appetite
Increased Life Span
Eliminates fish loss due to unbalanced or polluted water, acidity, and pH changes
Necessary organisms allowed growth with no danger of pollution
No osmotic shock
Helps remove red slime (Cyano Bacteria)
Always sparkling crystal clear blue-white water
Removes copper metal, ions, odors, all pollution, gasses, CO2, and color
No cleaning necessary for health of fish
Removes Phosphates

A lot of those things are kinda implied. Carbon removes pollutants with implies that you would have healthier fish with longer life spans, more appetite, etc. Osmotic shock would mean that salinity would have to drop, I don't see how that can happen. It would help remove red slime by removing nitrates. It only removes phosphate if you purchase the elite version which has GFO. Carbon should clear water so I would assume it would make the water clear. I wouldn't recommend not doing water changes. Granted they do use an "ion exchange resin" which I'm not sure of.

I used it for the first 9-10 months when I set up my first tank, Long story short, got lazy, got complacent and stopped using it. Tank crashed! It's taken 9-10 months to get my tank back to respectable levels but I'll never go without Chemipure of some sort again. I think it's a must for Nano tanks.

Lots (almost all) of the claims may relate to only fresh water, and some are utterly ridiculous, such as

"Prevents ion antagonism" whatever that means

I expect that the ion exchange resins in it do little more than bind organics from seawater (and possibly trace metals that are bound to the organics) and may be useful from that perspective. The GAC, of course, may be useful similar to any other brand of GAC. :)

Hmm mixed reviews. I remeber like 15 years ago I seen it in a magazine and thought this is what my tank needed!

How does it prevent osmotic balance?

Yes something seems fishy. Haha

I'm not sure what those words mean exactly, but in fresh water the ion exchange resin will bind some ions and release others, altering the balance. In seawater, the effect is totally wiped out by the massive amount of salts (ions) present.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
