Last thing, I believe the proliferation in Dino outbreaks we’ve seen in recent years is directly correlated, and potentially caused, by using dry rock instead of live rock.

Everyone I speak to about this or references Randy-Holmes thread have this epiphany “oh ya, the first time I used dry rock was when I got Dino”.

It all makes perfect sense.
Only dry rock in my aquarium. No pests, and no Dino’s. If you’re that positive your rock is giving you all that trouble, why not take it out and get better rock?

About all we can use anymore. I prefer to use what I like to call aquacultured live rock. None of the pests, all of the bests... I may have just come up with a business slogan. Anyone interested in becoming a potential investor?

Well I’ve got an idea to stack on top.

I threw the idea of saturating the rock at a specific phosphate level before adding to the tank.

He said it would definitely work.

I’d have paid a lot of money for that rock.

Almost looks like ha. Have you id with a scope. That will give you a definitive answer

No which makes this situation even weirder. When I first started noticing it. I ran the paper towel test and scoped it. I couldn’t identify it at all. It also passed the paper towel test.

I eventually had to say, ok, this is Dino.

I’m a little more relaxed. My phosphates held up for 30 minutes. That’s the best they’ve ever held up.

Got to take points where you can.

I’m also confident algae can survive on low/no phosphates as long as they’re introduced.

I have some cyano and turf algae I can throw into my display if I need it.

I’d like to raise my hand and say that in 10 months of reefing I have never personally tested my phosphates. Every once in a while I take some water to the LFS just for peace of mind, it’s ok that it’s always a waste of my time and theirs ;) I feed my corals like I feed my fish and don’t worry about it lol

(just imaging how much time @living_tribunal must spend testing!)
