One drain and the smaller pipe is the return.

wait, im confused. isnt the smaller one a back up drain?

Why can’t the drain pipe be cut at water level and a gate valve be installed so you can adjust it to your return flow. What am I missing?

I haven't ever used one of these, but found them interesting enough to bookmark for future reference. Maybe something to at least consider for the noisy drain pipe. Maybe someone here has experience with them and can offer more insight than me.

Oddly enough, I think he's probably not that drunk. I'm not sure why I have this feeling but I do.
