Idk why brass or if it actually is brass. It protrudes out of the other end too, not just the base. Maybe it’s an alloy of some sort. I have 4 on my tank and the only metal that’s been high on icp test was zinc. It was from my RO water float valve.
Zinc + copper = brass
It was my RO reservoir with a high level of zinc. When I did water changes it added zinc to my tank. It’s normal now. The float valve on my RO system had a big silver adjusting wing nut. It was leaching into my water.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but icp testing companies probably make more money saying everything is okay than telling you what's wrong.

Maybe vortech is in with them. Probably all owned by a fish wholesaler. They kill our livestock so we have to buy more. Never ending circle. They get richer. I bet the salt companies are part of it too. 🤣

Is that on your 60, 108 or 124 gallon?

Reef Moonshiners uses Oceamo-ICP to tell you what is wrong so they can sell you a bunch of bottles to dose! ATI also has a new MS test which also comes with bunch of recommendations.

Actually it’d be the other way around. By telling you something’s wrong it would promote selling more tests from people trying to correct and retesting.

Provided they're telling you the parameter which is out of whack and not another.

Not sure what's going on. I'm using the app, somehow it's quoting previous responses that I'm not responding to 🤷

Sorry. Like I said the app has been messed up for me. After reviewing the posts I didn't realize multiple people were sending those responses, I felt judged and went after some that I shouldn't have and for that I apologize.

Anyways, I'm sure there's someone with a beat up gen 2 Vortech that can scrape back the foam in the center that can confirm or deny what I'm seeing with pics.

Ty in advance and Happy Thanksgiving

No offense taken here. I don’t think you said anything bad nor hurt anyone’s feelings. The app on the other hand can be painful at times 😁. I’m for sure ready for some delicious turkey

This is from a mp10 wet side that was purchased in 2011. Not sure what gen it would be considered. It looks metallic but not sure what it is.

Hello. I recently was doing some maintenance on my tank and cleaning up my wet sides. I have one that's habitually difficult to disassemble* and as a result the foam got damaged. When I went to swap out my dirty power head I noticed a small speck of what looked like brass underneath it, when I scraped it further here's what I found...

*Edited, changed remove to disassemble

Also, as much as I hate Ecotech, it looks the adhesive that attaches the foam to the wet side is what has the discoloration. Try scraping the adhesive away with your fingernail and see what happens.
