Mangrove will require more of a full spectrum light, ie... something for a freshwater planted tank. That's why most of the time you see mangrove being grown, the tank owner usually has a dedicated plant light for the mangroves.

I had a mangrove under a reef light for a year, it never grew at all. A few months ago I added a small (45 watt) grow light and it grew 2" and 4 new leaves in just 3 months. I got the idea from @CHSUB

Yes and thanks…

To the OP, I run a 130 watt Fecida Grow Light LED over my mangrove for 10 hour per day, mangrove is also planted in organic potting soil with an argonite gravel cap. Imo for mangroves to do best the system needs to have some focus on its success, not simply sticking a pod in the overflow, however it might work sometimes…

Yes. However, if you look at my setup I also use “reef lights” because just the grow lights at 3000 k makes the corals and tank look extremely ugly. You might try just your reef lights with the white light at full power and see what happens.

I have two lights on my mangroves, imo the bigger one is too much for your setup. Here is my smaller one that might be perfect? I would put as much gravel as possible and maybe even a layer of organic potting soil below? Get a mangrove with the least amount of root development as possible, better with none but ok with some. Most growers use only freshwater or brackish water and the more root development makes transition to saltwater more difficult. I sell mangroves but don’t ship to Canada….

In the sand is better, faster growth. However above the sand allows you to see the roots growing down eventually reaching the sand. I have some of both because the roots look kool..so I guess it is what you prefer.
