I have been using Brightwell Magnesion in conjunction with the Reef Moonshiners method. Just purchased Magnesion-P to save some money. How many grams per liter do I mix to end up with the same strength solution as the bottled Magnesion?

Thanks!

If you believe Brightwell’s assertion that the liquid is 100,000 ppm and the solid is 240,000 ppm magnesium, then mixing 1 part solid with 1.4 parts ro/di by weight will give the same potency as their liquid.

Hi there,
Asked GPT to make me a stock solution for my tank and gave me the following PDF.
Is this correct formula? not sure :))

Thanks Randy :) but i have brightwell Magnesion-P in stock right now. In case the attached PDF is not available, going to paste the GPT calculations here.

Magnesion-P Magnesium Dosing Guide
Basic and Advanced Magnesium Dosing

This guide explains how to dose Magnesion-P for maintaining or adjusting magnesium concentration in
aquariums using a 1-liter stock solution prepared from Magnesion-P powder.
Stock solution preparation:
- Dissolve 84.4 grams of Magnesion-P in 1 liter (1000 ml) of purified fresh water.
- Each 1 ml of this solution increases magnesium concentration by 6.0 ppm in 3.785 liters of water.
Daily Maintenance Dose Calculation
To maintain magnesium concentration, measure the daily drop (Delta Mg in ppm) over 7-14 days.
Use this formula to calculate the daily dose (in ml) of stock solution:
Daily dose (ml) = (Delta Mg × Aquarium volume in liters) / (6.0 × 3.785)
Where:
Delta Mg = daily decrease in magnesium concentration (ppm)
Aquarium volume in liters = total water volume in your aquarium
Example: Maintenance Dose for 250 L Aquarium
Aquarium volume: 250 liters
Daily magnesium drop: 5 ppm
Daily dose = (5 × 250) / (6.0 × 3.785) which is approximately 55 ml
So, dose approximately 55 ml daily to maintain magnesium levels.
Raising Magnesium by 30 ppm
If you want to increase magnesium concentration by 30 ppm in a 250 L aquarium, use:
Magnesion-P Magnesium Dosing Guide
Dose (ml) = (Desired ppm increase × Aquarium volume in liters) / (6.0 × 3.785)
Dose = (30 × 250) / (6.0 × 3.785) which is approximately 330 ml
Dose 330 ml once to raise magnesium by 30 ppm.
Safety Reminder
Keep Magnesion-P out of reach of children.
Not for human consumption.

I have wasted far too much time checking ChatGPT mistakes to think that is worth doing. It takes more effort to check someone else’s work than do do it from scratch.

Can you explain what exactly you want the solution to do?

Want to prepare a 1 liter stock solution out of BRW Magnesion-P and make +30ppm additions to my 250 liters tank as needed (my salt mg is pretty low on my standarts).

I have wasted far too much time checking ChatGPT mistakes to think that is worth doing. It takes more effort to check someone else’s work than do do it from scratch.

Now that aquawiz gadget is popular in here, think AI might operate in reef hobby in less than 5 years?

magnesion P is 24% magnesium by weight.

A 30 ppm (30 mg/L) boost to magnesium in 250 liters takes 30 x 250 =7,500 mg or 7.5 grams.

Since it is 24% by weight, adding 7.5/0.24 =31.25 grams will give you that boost.

Thus, dissolving 31.25 g in a liter will give that boost when all added.

If you dissolve seven times that amount, or 219 g in a liter final volume, that 1 L will last for seven doses.
