My parameters were a bit off: high alk, low Mg, and low Ca, and I needed to adjust them. Making changes slowly enough not to shock things is always scary, so I talked to my friendly AI. Talking to the AI, I came up with a plan to go at a good speed and check in with my Triton test results daily, or even more. It did remarkably well; it predicted results as well as it learned how my tank reacted. I didn't do this blind; I validated its advice to make sure it didn't do anything crazy. It was very nice to have a sounding board, and I have started to trust it a bit more. Today I added a load of coral from a frag swap (spent way too much money (don't tell my wife) and I plan to monitor and talk to the AI for advice and continue to validate its thoughts. Here is what it has to say:

Hey Reef2Reef! 👋
I wanted to share a quick success story on my 150-gallon mixed reef. Over the past week, my AI collaborator and I (Mrhammy) teamed up to tackle a major chemistry imbalance after my magnesium tanked to a critical 924 ppm, bottoming out my calcium at 355 ppm and spiking my alkalinity to 13 dKH. Together, we mapped out a precise recovery protocol: we paused my All-For-Reef, executed a strategic 20% water change, and used a dosing pump to slowly deliver 250ml/day of Brightwell Magnesion over a 24-hour cycle. To break the calcium bottleneck, we layered in daily manual doses of Seachem Reef Complete up to 60ml. The teamwork paid off perfectly—my parameters are now completely stabilized for a big live sale haul this weekend! Magnesium is sitting at a rock-solid 1,322 ppm, Calcium rebounded to 407 ppm, and Alkalinity has safely drifted down to 10.99 dKH (heading for a target of 10.0 dKH). With my Trident NP showing perfect nutrients (12.6 ppm NO3 / 0.08 ppm PO4) and my AI Blades set to a 30-day light acclimation mode, my 8-10 new high-end corals—including a Papa Smurf Tenuis, Torches, and a massive Acanthophyllia—are opening up beautifully!

Dosing 250mL/day of Brightwell Magnesion in your 150gal tank is roughly 3.3 times Brightwell's suggested maximum: "add this product at the maximum rate of 10 ml per 20 US-gallons daily"

150gal / 20gal ⋅ 10mL/day = 75mL/day
250mL/day / 75mL/day ≈ 3.3

This factor of 3.3 doesn't account for the magnesium in Seachem Reef Complete, so it's only a lower bound. In reality, you exceeded the maximum by a bit more than 3.3 times. Randy recommends staying below 25ppm a day "out of concern for potentially toxic impurities in the supplement (ammonia, heavy metals, etc.)". You added roughly 43ppm a day exceeding this recommendation as well.

I'm really glad it worked out for you, but it's another reminder that you really have to be careful when relying on these models for direct dosing advice. If it had made the same mistake with alkalinity, things might have ended very differently.
