Brown Jelly Disease

I’ve been dealing with Brown Jelly Disease (BJD) on my torches and hammers for the past 3 weeks (5 dead pieces). I cut off the infected heads and iodine dips what’s left but with no luck. I think it will eventually wipe out my entire Euphyllia. From what I can see... it kills one coral piece at a time. Other torches and hammers are not infected until one piece is dead, then the next one will get infected. I’m wondering if this is what others are seeing too.

I had some ducans and a hammer get it last year. They were in tank for a while and then one ducan go it and it spread. If I ever get again on any of my three hammers, I will toss it right away to avoid it spreading again.

Did it infect/kill one coral piece at a time? Or did it infect/kill multiple pieces at one time ? Thanks.

Id qt any that have it remove any infected tissue and probably treat the qt with ciprofloxacin.
I wouldn’t leave in the tank if their are healthy specimens you know you can save.

Totally agree with this. Pull out any pieces that you still have that are not affected and treat them. Does not seem to be a way to truly stop brown jelly once it infects the coral so best to pull anything that looks healthy out and treat them. It is your best chance but still not a sure thing

This may sound overly simple but reduce your aquarium temperature. I’d put it at 77 or less , in my experience with brown jelly is , it is much worse at high temperatures 80 and up and your asking for brown jelly. If it touches another coral that head gets it to . Cut it out basting if needed out of the aquarium in a pale . And good luck

Just thinking about the similarities between brown jelly and cyano . Makes me wonder if chemical ran treat brown jelly to ???

Thank you for the replies and advices. All of them are good. However, I am curious as how does brown jelly kill..... one coral at a time ? Or multiple at one time. For a devastating and an easily transfer disease one would think it would attack and kill multiple coral at one time. So I want to hear from others that observed this pattern or not.

Brown jelly attacks weakened corals. High temperatures exasperates the brown jelly . It will attack one head then another and so on , it can also spread like fire , killing lps wherever it can . Frogspawn, hammers , and especially torches will get it at temperatures above 79-80 in my experience. Frogspawn is the most hardy and resilient of the genius. Also branching types tend to do the best .
BTW if you see a head with brown jelly Siphon the brown jelly off / cut the branch out before it spreads .
