Brown powder tang biting blue powder, scopas tang, and the largest beside the brown, a sailfin. Do any of you know how to make him stop? My lfs said maybe I can shove him in the filter for a couple days to teach him a lesson. Is there enough space here?

I’ve heard a large mirror attached to the tank for some time can decrease aggression. Guess it makes him think there is another powder brown around and he better chill.

Also I agree. Don’t put that poor baby in the sump.

mirror on the side of the tank. Also only when one of the tangs gives it does it stop. And it’s hard to say when the two tangs feel that line has been crossed. You can try this. Get a 20 long QT tank. Then during the night add both fish in the tank at the same time. Come morning with day light or lights on, start adding food. See what the interaction turns into. Also keep some 2-3” PVC fittings around to put into said tank. So far this method has let me pair up three Pairs of brown and blue powders. The faster way for now is a big mirror. Tapped to the tank.

Just put up a mirror and he is trying to beat the ever living **** out of himself

Even the sailfin is in on it now

I don’t have space for a Q tank nor can I get one. I’m 15 and parents don’t want me getting another tank no matter how small.

Are the other fish new additions ? How long did you have each of the fish.
Teaching the fish a lesson?🤔
fish beating itself on the mirror is the process as its now preoccupied by this new fish which looks similar to it (most tangs are more aggressive to their own kind) and it disregards the other fish giving them time to find hiding places and settle more in the tank.

These fish were all added within 4 days of each other, sailfin and brown on one day, blue and scopas 3 or so days after. And by moving him to sump, lfs said that would get him to lose his territory and he would be less territorial when reintroduced. And how long until I can remove the mirror and when will he cool down?

rework some of the rock. If you can’t out side of mirror you can’t you can try sticking a fish net in his primary home. Force him to relocate house throw him off a bit.

Far as I know he hasn’t chosen a spot to sleep yet, swims around a lot at night, and not possible to rework the rock. Too much living on it to move without crushing something.

Only really worrying because he chased the powder blue relentlessly and did some surface damage with his spike to the scopas.

This tank is needed only for a few days. You don’t have to leave it up and running for a long time. Then it can be put away. Also a QT tank or medic tank is something good to have on hand. If that one day comes you will be happy you have the stuff to take care of sick fish. And I get living under a parents roof with minimal. At this point I would recommend be carful of what you put into your tank. Only takes one bad fish or sick fish to ruin it all.

Sometime just sticking a net in will reveal it. Fish will typically back to there main place of safety when they detect a threat. If not as other has suggest space out two nori clips to try and encourage community eating which tends to lower regression

So very many tangs. Most reefers keep fish just to handle problems like algae. Now you have to catch the culprit and deal with it. Please look into an acclimation box for the next go around.

He’s fine with the scopas now but the powder blue is just hiding in the corner all day and he will occasionally go over to it to nip at it it looks like, but he isn’t outright chasing it. Does that mean it’s getting better? And I have 3 nori clips out, almost all tangs are eating together, besides powder blue.
