Brown sps shipment??

Hey everyone I recently just started ordering corals manly sps off the Internet, the pictures are always really nice but when I get my Sps they are always brown, especially the millis. Is it bad shipment or what could be the probablem? And what's the possibility of them coloring up and looking like the pictures from the website? Thank you. Also do you guys have any recomendatoins of a good reliable website to order stuff from with really nice sps that won't brown out, besides world wide corals, my lfs has nothing.

sometimes that happens from stress, dip, drop that guy in a good flow area in the tank and if all is well with your params and lighting it should color back up.

+1^ Don't get discouraged if they don't color up quickly. It can take a while sometimes depending on your parameters. Nothing good happens quickly in this hobby.

normally they lose some color but not all of it.... if there wild specimens it might not ever color up.....i got one that grows like crazy but will not color up for nothing!!!!! most likely will toss it .... i was gonna sell it but who want's to buy brown corals..lol give them some time like suggested.... not sure the pics you saw on the site either but alot of times it will never look like them as sad as it is....:(

I have a wonderfully colored Rose (or maybe Rouge) Mili that sat brown and homely for about a year before it suddenly decided to color up. My Rainbow Montipora was mud brown for over half a year and my True Purple cap was brown forever. Just give the ugly ducklings the best treatment you can and you may end up with a jewel. (None of these were wild colonies, they tend to end up ugly in MANY cases)

I recently got some sps from wetthumbfrags and they came in very colorfull and also purchased from Shadowramy who has some $10 - $20 frags that
has some great color too.

agreed they do color up 90 percent of the time.... it's just wierd having 100+ acros in my tank looking like a box of fruity pebbles "frags lol" and one brown one.... i cant get it to color for nothing....:(
now any wild colony i have bought comes in super duper bright browns out and totally changes it color when it comes back around a few months later.... for instance i bought this wild humillis
it was a bright white with purple tips..."insane" then it kinda browned out in captivity and now is one of the brightest solid green pieces in my tank...."brighter than my bali green slimer" then another piece i bought the same day was a bright blue yellow acro with purple tips and neon green polyps....now it is green with purple tips and yellow polyps.."almost looks like a tricolor" which i hate because i have 3 different kinds of tricolors already...:( wild ones are crazy from my exp with them lol....

I got an order from wet thumb frags yesterday and everything has nice color.

Most of the time (from other retailers) my sps come in brown and eventually get their color back over a month and a half period. I have had a mariculture coral change from a purple when I ordered it to a very bright turquoise and green. Be patient with the browning, it should pass with time.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I ordered seven pieces from wet thumb Frags and two of them have turned out really nice. I do test my water regularly and all of my parameters are good. Looks like best thing to do is wait it out and see. Does anyone have any experience with reefexotics.net? I have a shipment coming from them too.

Also some people misrepresent their corals.. Sad but if everything around it is extreemly blue or if the coraline algea is more pronounced than some of the other corals i would never vest.

When I order from Live Aquaria they typically always looks very similar to the picture. They don't take the picture until after it has acclimated to their system.....typically 2-4 weeks later. A lot of places do use LED's and miss represent color. It is not unusual for a coral to loose some color but shouldn't turn completly brown. A lot of the times they take the picture as soon as the coral arrives and sell it 3 to 4 weeks later and it has browned out in there system. So you are likely getting it similar to what it looked like when they shipped. Given adequate time and right parameters it may color back up. As others have said wild corals are more prone, much much more prone to this. Go aquacultured when possible.

What kind and color temperature lighting do you have? Many times this is a HUGE factor when it comes to SPS color.

The lighting should show great color. When you get the sps do you dip it? If so what is the process that you are using?

I did not dip them. I am just starting to learn that I should. I've heard that melafix is really good, or any other suggestions? Thankyou
