I have two tanks and I recently noticed that some of my Zoas started closing up and getting brown stuff over them. Has anyone had any experience with this before. I did some research and a lot of people point to doing a Furan-2 dip for them. I was curious to see who has dealt with this same problem and had success. I took a tooth brush to my Zoa to see if it would come off and it didn’t really do much.

Looks like it could be bacterial infection. I would look into a dip, either hydrogen peroxide or a antibiotic like Furan-2 or dosing the tank with chemiclean. I get that from time to time. Quick treatment and they’ll look better within days.

I'm also thinking dino. What are your current nutrients? Can you blow them with a turkey baster?
When I blow or even use a tooth brush it does not come off.

PH 8.2
Salinity 1.026
MG -1211
CA- 444
ALK - 10.95
Temp 76.8

Your rock looks so new and has brown in the cracks, and all those zoas look ticked off. Whats your n03 p04, see if your needing some nutrients dosed

Phos is a little high but probably not detrimental. If it doesn’t come off when scrubbed or blown with a baster, then they probably need a dip. If you can’t get chemiclean or furan-2, try a 5 min bath with 3 parts tank water and 1 part hydrogen peroxide.

Normally It isn’t Dino or cyano if turkey baster won’t blast it off. I was going to say it looks like the start of some type of dino, if the tank is new I bet it’s just some part of the ugly phase

Its dino, at least the beginning of. Take a turkey baster and give it Gentle bursts of water to dislodge. Elevate the frag off sand if thats its location.
For the dino, Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly
