Says “retired”, so I’m assuming that means they are no longer going to carry it.

Good question. It does say retired but it also says " by far our customers favorite rock". @BRS ?

There are export bans that were placed in 2016-2018 that have pretty much halted all of the supply of dry or live from locations the were previously farmed.

https://www.reef2rainforest.com/2018/05/04/breaking-news-indonesia-halts-coral-exports/

Example how this has effected the market. Walt smith instead of shipping real rock, is manufacturing rock in fiji and shipping to florida to be cured off the coast.

In short, BRS or other retailer are unable to carry pukani and other types of rock for reasons beyond their control.

I beleive they were blowing up the reefs in order to harvest them. I could be wrong though.

This is not how they were harvesting at least the large operations some small time divers may have used tactics like this but the large operators that the vast majority of us sourcing our rock from were doing things like collecting rock that washed a shore. Theres plenty of videos on walt smith’s operations.

Scroll down to the section on cautionary tale. Yes we as a species are harming our environment, but not everything we do is.

This was a feel good reaction as governments do little to reel in line fishing, poaching, and overfishing that have a 1000 fold effect compared to the aquarium trade.

Ive always disliked Pukani because it needs to be cured. ReefCleaners is add-n-play. No algae, and its much more porous/hole-y.

There are definitely some drawbacks to Pukani (it leached P04 and there is often large amounts of dead stuff on it), but it is by far more 10x's more porous than any of the man-made stuff - ReefClearners included.

That's why I asked. I wasn't sure as to how they were doing things. Thanks for sharing that information!

You can't get most live rock at the moment. There are a lot of bans/halts/restrictions taking place currently in countries of origin.
