Hey everyone, I don't know anything,...about controller's, so I don't want one that is hard to use.

I can't afford the Apex system, but I received a Bulk Reef Supply post card today that has a deal on the Digital Aquatics Controller.

It's $259, but they gave me reduction of $100, so $159 is what I'd pay.

What do you think of the Reef Keeper's, and of this particular package deal ?

Is it worth it ?

Or, should I hold out for a couple months, as the used APEX market should be coming soon, now that there's a new APEX announced ?

I'm still concerned about the cost of even used Apex's of over $400 +, and the possible problems of buying used,.... electronics.

ReefKeeper Lite Controller SL2 Package-

Thanks,
Kevin

You don't need the salinity probe right away, it's what's called an add on. RK is a nice line of controllers. I personally use Apex and just got the standard with lab grade probes. RKL and Apex Lite are both very good entry level controllers. It's really going to come down to what you want the controller to do for you in the long run is what you want to consider.

I think it's definitely worth it. First I don't see much use for a salinity probe, 2nd, buy some float valves off amazon for $4, a few 5 cent connectors and you can add float valves to anything. Currently have a float that my ATO, uses, one that shuts off my skimmer when the sump level rises (return off for feeding) and now one in my skimmer cup, shuts off when it will overflow.

The SL2 has 2 inputs that can be used for float switch inputs. Also all modules on the RKL can be used with the RKE and most of them with the Archon if you do want to upgrade later. The RkL is easy to program using myReef software on a windows computer.

If your not going to use the sl2 then why spend more for it instead of the sl1 package?

I think it is on sale so the SLX it is not cheaper. By the way the SL1 is not available anymore. It was replaced with the SLX module.

I got the same postcard and was looking to possibly purchase this as well. Does anyone know if the RK Lite can be upgraded w/ a web module?

I got the same post card from them in the mail yesterday! I was going to get the light version. I was psyched to see the $100 off, then I noticed the expiration date on those offers... 5/26/16. That deal expired before I even received it. No bueno BRS, no bueno. Thought about calling to see if they will honor it, I'm sure the would/will.

BRS responded that the printers made a mistake and it is valid thru 6-17-16.

It will work with windows 10 not sure about on a tablet. It would have to be a windows platform to even give it a try. Also myReef will not work correctly if the window has been maximized to the full screen mode. Tablets have a habit of doing this.

I'm still pondering to buy it, or wait for a good used Apex, since they've come out with the new system.
But, I'm sure it will still cost over $400.

Too bad we have to buy a $115 probe !
So,... that now is back to $259 (+) probe.

I think the salinity probe would work great for me, as I can always take a quick glance to check it, although I have the wonderful,... Milwaukee meter !

What all would you guys hook up with the supplied BRS system ?

What do you wish it had ?

Ordered from BRS relieved the RKL in 3 days!! Had it setup and running under an hour. I am really happy with it. I originally wanted to order the Apex gold that was on sale at BRS but they were out of stock at the time.

I have it running my ATO, pumps, power heads, skimmer, kalk dosing pump. I didn't get a salinity probe yet and might not, it's just as easy to use the refract for salinity.

For $159 you can't go wrong!!!

That was a heck of a deal lol
And for probes, you can use just about any. Any "lab grade" is the same as well as long as it's a double junction iirc.

FYI, if you do get to the point you need a more advanced controller the RKE and Archon will use the modules you have on the RKL. Did you get the pH probe?
