Hello Reefers,

This is my first BTA and I’m trying to figure out why it’s “bubble” shape isn’t so prominent anymore. In the morning as the light comes on it seems to be a bit more until lights hit peak then it looks like this until lights down.. not terrible I don’t think (don’t mind the field of GHA I’m working on it) what would cause this? More light? Less light? Flow? It’s getting about 200 par right there

No one has ever definitively figured out what factors influence a BTA to display bubble tips.
Did you attempt to post an image?

This topic has been discussed endlessly for decades and no one has ever, that I’m aware of, come to a definitive conclusion as to why…I can tell you that I have many BTAs now and most of them do not bubble. All of them are in separate systems but all have the same lighting and very similar water parameters.

My Chicagos never bubble:
