I picked up this coral maybe two months ago, it was missing a head when I brought it home. Blue legged crabs were very interested in the empty "neck" for the first couple of weeks, but have left it alone since. Does this look like bubble algae or is it something else? It appeared about two or maybe three weeks ago and has been growing larger very slowly. Should I remove the coral and clip the neck off below the algae? I don't see it anywhere else in the tank.

Yes, it looks like bubble algae and you are correct, the fastest fix would be to remove the branch with the algae and toss it.
Thanks. I will add that to my list of things to do...pulling rocks to catch a fish, water changes, adding sand and water to a new tank...good thing I don't have anything else planned today.
