Bubble coral is a little weird

Hey all! I have had a bubble coral for about a year now and it has looked like this for about the whole time, didn’t know if anyone had any ideas of why it doesn’t bubble and just looks like a hungry Alien the whole time. I know they put out feeders when hungry, I have tried feeding him, a lot, and they still don’t go back to normal, any ideas?

I think that these are called “pearl-bubble” corals and they do look different from the other bubble corals.

Unfortunately all I know is mine slowly declined over time for no reason, and they apparently are notoriously aggressive stingers.

Doesn't look too bad to me. It has some decent bubbles but I also see the tentacles. My LPS experience is limited but the coral that I've kept that have the ability to be aggressive and sting like bubble coral, lobos, pectinia etc will sometime stay in an aggressive state when they are in with other LPS. I don't know if it's an offensive or defensive thing but I've had coral that have sweepers out constantly completely stop sending them out after being moved to a different tank. Perhaps your bubble is responding to the other LPS in the tank?

This is my bubble that I've had for over 9 years. It will extend sweepers at night but it appears to be for feeding. It doesn't seem to be bothered by the coral near it now. When it was in a with a lot of meaty LPS it was always reaching out trying to touch them. I kept it in it own corner.

Any chance it is a fox coral. I have one that often looks like a bubble coral.

I don’t think so, I got it from Aqua SD as a bubble coral

my bubble coral was beautiful like yours about the same size however now it has been slowly declining over the past week. The other two small bubble corals are fine. What t could be the problem. That coral was my favorite object in the tank. I am devastated.

Sorry to hear this and wish I could help. I tried a green bubble coral once and it didn't last. I had it in the same tank just several inches from my old one and it just withered away while this one continued to thrive but I have no idea why.

The Bubble coral is getting better. I will keep you posted.
