I was wondering if 3/4" would be enough space to get the collection cup off of this skimmer. I'm trying to find the biggest skimmer that will fit under my stand. I have about 23.5" clearance. The skimmer itself is 21.7". Obviously I would love to have more room under there, but the system is already built and setup. Just looking to upgrade the skimmer. Right now I'm running 2x swc 160 cones.

I'm also open to other skimmers. Sump is 24" x 36" x 12" with 23.5" clearance.

Opinions please.

what size is the tank?

Yes that is enough but maybe there is another option?

about 500 gal of total water. Will probably have a lot of tangs inside the tank. I'm trying to buy a nice piece of equipment that will last the rest of my reefing career! lol

I hear ya there. The BK is a great skimmer for sure and when you start getting bigger the bk is nt really that much more. The ATB large or 12.5 and the bk series would be the way to go for sure. With that water volume a ETSS or MRC style skimmer may even be better. The downdraft and beckett skimmers move much more water and take up less space when you start getting over about 300g I would consider a beckett or downdraft style skimmer.

either way you will be doing fine. they will all work very well.

I was just offered and awesome deal on an ETSS, but when I looked at the pump to run that it was soooo much energy and wouldn't be cost effective in the long run. plus I'd have to make room for it on the side of my tank. It was an etss 100 w/ pump for $300. but the thing was like 4 ft. tall. I think I'd rather just spend the money and get a BK. Just wanted to check and make sure I'd be able to get off the lid!

I was also looking at a reeflo orca pro skimmers, but would have to check out the dimensions to see if I could fit it next to the tank. I figured if I was going to spend that kind of money though that I should just get the BK.
