Hello!
I’m not sure if this would be the correct place to post but I just got a bubble tip anemone and was wondering how long it took for any of your clownfish to start hosting an anemone?

mine have definitely noticed it and kinda hover behind it while checking it out but they haven’t swam in it yet

Like a day for me. Just keep in mind that the nem will move around to where it is comfortable. Also the clowns might rough it up a little in the beggining which may cause it to move as well.

Hi,
People get it mixed up all the time, but it’s actually the anemone that hosts the clown, not the other way around. 🤗.
If the clowns are showing interest in it, that’s a good sign, but not all clowns will be hosted. And some clowns choose to be hosted by other things as well… corals, return nozzles, heaters.

I once had a clownfish that I swear was being hosted by a watchman goby.

Every clown is different, it took my black storm and flurry less than 10 minutes but I’ve had a pairs take weeks to months, some just outright refuse to be hosted by a nem, some people put a picture or video of a clownfish hosting a nem to get the clownfish to host but honestly I’d give it some time and it will most likely do it itself

Ok, it usually takes one to three weeks for a bubble tip to settle in. They will move around until they find where they want to be. Then after they are settled in a Clown MAY show interest. That “interest “ can also take some time. Like two to three weeks. Patience my friend

Here's the thing, they may never be hosted by the anemone, or maybe my clown is broken.

I bought a baby maroon clown that was sitting in an anemone snug as a bug in a rug when I pointed at him to tell the fish store guy which one to net. Got him home and the little guy never went to the exact same kind of anemone that came from the exact same tank as the fish not 4 weeks prior. He stayed in that tank for 3-4 months and never went to that anemone and now lives in a tank full of euphyllia corals and still would rather sit in the middle of a Stylo colony or his little dug out spot in the back corner. So strange.

I've seen some clowns be hosted by the anemone within days. Others I've seen spent months/years, and the clowns never show interest in the anemone.
