Bubble tip anemone stuck in fan/leather collision

Soooooo... night two with BTA, and it decided to go on a journey and went into the powerhead. It's a very large BTA and I gently pried it out (can't have been there too long) and it had a red spot on its foot but then went free floating, crashed into my new "rescue" aka slightly distressed leather coral and now that one is smoking. I assume expelling zooanxthellae. Is everything going to be ok? [emoji51] attached photo of pinched spot on the BTA and video of the leather.

I can't tell you if your BTA will be ok or not (have you tried the anemone/clownfish forum instead?). What I can tell you is that leathers can release chemicals in the water that can harm other inhabitants. Add some activated charcoal ASAP and consider removing the leather if you think it's badly damaged.

Not sure if your BTA looks that white during normal lighting. That might be a bad sign... Again, I recommend reposting this in the anemone/clownfish forum.

Hi,

I am running a tetra filter with carbon in the hang on back filter. Is that enough or should I change the filter again (it's only a week old) should I do a very large water change? My maxi mini carpet is looking stressed. This is a coral and anemone only tank plus 3 crabs and a snail.

You can add more in a media bag hung in the tank if the filter is too small...

Attached pictures of bta pre powerhead. The really scrunched in one is when i put it in tank. It established itself on the rock and then decided to start crawling around it last night.

Where do you get this? I've puree a bubble tip, but would still like nems, I don't see my tank as safe until I get a way to keep the wandering BTA from going through the powerhead.

BTW, this seems to be a pretty common mistake, Why don't the makers of power heads fix their design?

How old is your tank, what are your parameters and lighting? IMO your nem doesnt look happy

It was the pH. :( I thought the buffer had taken care of it, but it dropped by from 8.3 to 7.8. RTFM, I was supposed to add it every day. But now this new buffer is (marine buffer) is doing the same thing as Kent and jacking up my alkalinity. It's at 16dkh now. :/ at the LFS they said it wouldn't do that. Can't help but think it's the air quality/co2 in my house like the article I read said.

The tank is about a month old. I set it up as a QT tank for the corals and nems that i wanted for my main tank. That tank i took over from someone else and it was 18 months old. We took all but sand and half the water, so it's been relatively stable, but I've been struggling with ph there too. The older one has covered top, qt doesn't. No difference. QT had basically finished cycling.

Run some carbon in your system to get rid of some of that toxin released by your leather

Keep a window cracked, this helps my PH a ton I’m rarely under 8, I used to keep that window closed because of the dust that used to come in and my ph was in the mid 7s most of the time.

Made them from acrylic mesh and zip ties.

Thanks again for this idea. Found the mesh at my LFS. Until I have zip ties, I covered it with a media bag.

Panty hose works well just clogs easily...

In the future do not pry as damage is likely. Remove powerhead and place in bucket with tank water. It will slowly crawl off and you can return it to tank.
Consider what members just posted with a protective cage

Do not worrying about chasing PH. If you try, you’ll probably end up crashing your tank. Instead, focus on ammonia, nitrates, alk, etc and your tank will be perfect. As for the nem, have one looking the same way right now. Guy loves hiding in the rocks away from the light. I am not going to force him to move. He’ll learn he needs to come out or else....
