I have a piece of aquarium molitan avoiding the waterfall.. It reduces the bubbles and the noise produced by the fall and splashing.

In the sump baffles I've used filter floss, just had to change it out weekly

Under - Over - Under is easier to clean if the baffles are close together.

That's what I'm leaning towards, I also feel like it would be more effective.

I think it could be. Starting the trap by pulling water from the bottom with less bubbles (probably).

That was my thought process, plus the water would be directing the bubbles up towards the surface
