So the tank is just cruising along as planned. All of that macro algae is gone and I just have a little hair algae left in the overflow which I am not worried about. Cyano seems to come and go but nothing too bad.

I have been thinking about the design of the hood I will make because I cannot stand the light spill on my tanks! I had a play around in Rhinocerous 3d and came up with this.
It will match the style of the cabinet earlier in the thread. I had some time today to make up the bottom half. It is all glued and nailed and I will let it sit square until I have time to make the rest up.

The light will sit 8 - 10 inches above the water. I will most likely put a small fan or two for ventilation in the back of the hood. There will also be a trim around the bottom of the hood to hide the waterline.

Ready to trim to size.

I routed out some spaces for power cables to fit through. These will be hidden by the bottom trim. The whole hood is 5mm bigger in each dimension so the cables will fit.
The front panel is just temporally attached while the sides can dry square. I know the pine boards are backwards but that is the way the cabinet was made so I wanted to keep it the same.

That's going to look amazing! :D I can't wait to see the finished product all mounted on the new stand!
I should have the tank mounted on the new stand in about 6 months hopefully! :p
So far it looks like the house will be ready before Christmas if everything goes smoothly.

I got a little bit more done on the hood today. It is starting to take shape.
I will get the last two panels in tomorrow and then use some wood filler for any holes and gaps, give the whole thing a good sand and it should start looking good!

Just a quick FTS from my phone today as I haven't done one for a while. Still have some cyano but looks like I am getting on top of it.
Over the last few weeks I have shortened my light cycle by two hours and I also added an extra powerhead.
I added a birdsnest frag to see how a piece of SPS would go in my tank and well it's.... alive... so that's a success so far in my books :D

All braced, nailed, glued, screwed, hinged and ready for wood filler and sanding!
I added some magnets to the door so it stays closed nice and snug. They are 10mm diameter and 10mm thick and also completely encased in epoxy so they will never be exposed to any water.
Anyway, I hear you guys love pics so here they are!

Finished as much as I could on the hood. I will add a trim around the bottom of the hood to hide the waterline but that can't be done until I drill the tank for the new overflow and find the new waterline.
I need to add a fan or two into the back of the hood at some stage too.

After I gave the hood a sand and some wood filler I just stained it and then painted over it in some standard white ceiling paint. All it needed then was a scruff up with some sandpaper and it ended up matching the cabinet pretty well.
