Building a house, anyone else? Post pics!

My wife and I are the builders.

here it is now. My work van in garage to be. We are tired of cookie cutter homes so went contemporary. I can't wait to see pikes peak in all it's glory!

@code4 this is the second largest home We have ever had.. most of our homes were 1000 sq ft or less. had two teenagers in a 700 sq ft home at one point.. This was a good value and location for us at this point. We plan on it being our last purchase of a main home..
We think its beautiful too.. headed out tomorrow. i'll try and get some finished pictues to add to the thread.

@easternreefer our current house started at around 760 feet. But there have been two addition to it. The first was to lengthen the south side of the house to extend out the tiny bedroom. The second was to give it an actual living room. . We did the second. My husband was in construction before he went on to become a hydro repairman. So he is pretty handy.

I think it is wonderful that you can build your own home. We are starting to think age is catching up with us. That or we want to retire and sleep in now.

I've had three new homes built since 93. Second to the last was 2500 sqft and was just too big. My current house is 1300 and just enough for me and the wife. Unfinished basement finished would give us around 2500 and a reason for kids to move back in! Lol

Nice homes guys! Nothing like that new home smell!

I build them for a living... Be good to your project managers :) The stress we have on our shoulders is a little ridiculous sometimes.

I know that stress! My father was a general contractor for 40 years and mom was a stay at home mom. He taught me the trade as a carpenter and in between jobs, when I was young, I worked as a union trim carpenter. But I went the way of making and repairing medical devices for a living and have been at it now for 30 years.

Construction trades are a tough life and have the utmost respect for them. :)

I don't know how some of my trades do it some days... These guys are framing a house or running lines when it's 105 degrees out and 95% humidity and don't complain a bit.

Yeah, it's been a mostly mild year for my build but there were a few days that were blistering hot -- those folks kept powering through. Utmost respect here, as well!
