Bulkhead with two gaskets? Use both?

The big 60mm bulkhead that came with my Eshopps overflow came with 2 gaskets for the bulkhead. Every other bulkhead I have only came with 1 gasket, which I understand goes on the flange side. Do I use both gaskets on the 60mm bulkhead, one on the flange side and one on the nut side? Or is it just an extra gasket just in case?

How most estoppel overflows work .
There needs to be a hole in the tank .
There is also a hole in the external overflow box .
The tank and the box will be filled with water.
The bulk head needs to be sealed at both points.
So yes you need both gaskets.

Thank you! I figured that out today when I put the box on. Without both there were going to be leaks!

no, a gasket between the nut and wall does not seal anything.

The gasket always goes between the flange and wall. If there are two walls then between the flange and wall and then between both walls.

If it is an overflow box one goes on the inside glass side the other on the glass outside another words between the glass and the box . The nut is obviously in the box itself . Do not put the gasket between the nut and the box

Nope Wrong . I just bought a Mariner Marine overflow . If you don't believe what I said let me know I will take a picture of the instructions and post it. Don't you have Instructions ? Repeat the gasket does not go between the nut and inside of the box . If its like mine like it has to be . Think about it what seals the area between the tank and the box ?

Thanks! I’m glad I asked. I had the second gasket in the overflow box. I just moved it to the glass. So gasket on each side of the glass now. It looks like that is what the instructions say too, now that I actually looked at them lol!

Last check: does the back glass have a vinyl film or black/blue paint on it?

— your best bet at a reliable seal is having your gaskets directly against glass on both sides!

I painted it with black acrylic Krylon. Should I scrape that off where the gasket is?

Yes, you can use something a bit larger in diameter than the gasket, like a soda can/lid/etc as a template to cut around with a razor blade, through the paint… then scrape the paint up to this cut circle for a professional look!
