I have read many threads about newly introduced wrasses burying themselves immediately and not reappearing for days, if not weeks later. It has been almost two weeks since my leopard was introduced and still has not been seen. Is there a period of time I should wait before trying to locate the (hopefully) alive fish? May be a stupid question, but do they eat during the time they are buried or do they eventually emerge weeks later, skinny and in bad health?

Nope. Digging one up is never a good idea; you'll simply stress it more and hinder chances of success.

Often times, they may be sneaking out at "off" hours, either during the day or even during the night and may hunt a bit. In these instances, it's typically an artifact of a big change in time zones and the fishes internal time clock has not yet adjusted to your locale.

The best course of action is to simply sit and wait...

I had one and didn't see it for a month, one night I was having a few drinks in the eve near my tank into the wee small hours and the little fella came out. Turns out he was out every night for a while and then a couple of weeks later showed up during the day.

I just put 5 bipartus leopards in my tank and I had one come out immediately, but the other 4 ranged from 10 days to 21 days. Like evolved said it's generally a time change thing. Even when they started to come out it was at odd times. One was coming out at 4 pm and gradually started to align with my clock

I knew as soon as I posted he would show up  As I have read from other people, he is swimming around normally like he hasn't been buried for over two weeks lol. Surprisingly he looks well fed.
