OK, I'll admit it. Sometimes I get butterflies over my reef tank!

Whenever I'm looking through posts and see beautiful reef tanks is when I get excited the most. Also seeing people set up brand new systems and how it all looks neat and clean makes me want to work on my tank.

What makes you REALLY excited about your reef tank?

I used to be a softy and LPS guy. But after I got into SPS corals, an SPS dominant tank that has huge colonys of SPS corals growing and colorful always gives me butterflys. One in perticular is the display tank at the liveaquaria facility. I'm always left breathless whenever I see it at one of their facility tours :)

I love it when I come home from work and my fish all come up to the corner of the tank as soon as they see me. They'll follow me and group together close to me. Of course I know they just want to be fed, but the fact they come up to the glass to "Greet" me makes me feel good!

I will also add that it gives me butterflies when I can look at my tank and see noticeable growth on my SPS corals it tells me I'm doing something right and my corals are thanking me for it :)

I get excited about my tank 9 days out of 10 maybe more. Maybe I don't get butterflies everyday but a lot of times I do. This video does it for me every time :

Growth, water clarity. My tank is only 18" front to back but I still love the side view best, looking through 5 feet of crystal clear water. New polyps, new growth. The fact that I'm able to have a few thriving sps corals in a soft coral dominated system. I also like to picture what my tank will look like in 6 months, 1 year ect. What will overgrow what. What can I cram in, what needs to go ect. As much as I'd love a new bigger better cleaner system I love my old scratched up reef tank with tons of great life both as far as fish and corals.

Looking in my tank and seeing everything, although not perfect, healthy and thriving. Especially the fish.

AAAAAND, a morning off, with coffee and no one else in the house, when I get to just watch the lights come up and everything start to wake up and expand while my melanarus peeks his head out of the sand to say "good morning/where's the food". So peaceful :)
